01 / THE GAME

EVERY SENTENCE IS A DECISION.

IN DEVELOPMENT

You run
the paper.

UNPRINTED is a narrative-driven newspaper management game. You run a newspaper in the capital of a fictional country at war with another nation. Each day you send your reporters out, edit the stories they bring back and send the paper to print.

What you publish, and in what form, shapes political, social and military developments. But this is not a military strategy game: your place is not the front line, but the editor's desk.

ASSIGN · EDIT · PRINT

One sentence
changes everything.

You cannot change a single word your reporters write. All you can do is remove sentences, or restore them before the paper goes to print. The headline rewrites itself around what remains, and the same story can say something entirely different depending on what you leave in.

ONE DAY, FOUR STEPS

  1. 01

    Assign

Each day you send your reporters to one of five beats: Frontline, Government, Public, Interviews or Foreign Affairs. Each beat takes at most one reporter a day, and for interviews you choose who to talk to.

  2. 02

    Edit

Remove sentences from incoming stories, or put back the ones you removed. Every change updates the headline to fit the sentences that remain.

  3. 03

    Print

An issue holds up to three stories. Sending the paper to print closes the day; a printed issue never changes.

  4. 04

    Follow the fallout

What you publish carries into the days ahead. You see your influence not on a scoreboard, but in new stories, in how characters react and in a changing world.

03 / REPORTERS

THREE REPORTERS. THREE CONSCIENCES.

Every story
has a cost.

You start with three reporters. Each has a distinct personality, professional background, political outlook and journalistic principles, and those core beliefs never change over the course of the game.

Your reporters can be injured, arrested, killed or resign. Those who die or resign never come back, and no one is hired to replace them.

WHAT SHAPES THEIR TRUST

  1. 01

How heavily you edit their work

  2. 02

Whether your edits respect their principles

  3. 03

How well the paper protects them

A reporter who loses faith in the paper may resign. Even if you lose every reporter, the game goes on.

04 / CONSEQUENCES

WAR, POLITICS AND SOCIETY

The world
won't wait.

The stories you publish shape later events, political developments and the course of the war. But the world does not revolve around you; it keeps changing on its own.

Not every story leads to a major consequence, and no number measures your influence. Consequences surface naturally in the news of the days that follow and in how characters react.

Opening events may play out the same way each time. After that, the story branches with your decisions, sometimes reconverges, and arrives at endings written in advance.

FOUR OUTCOMES, DECIDED SEPARATELY
01

The reporters' fate

02

The newspaper's fate

03

The war's outcome

04

The government's fate

05 / STORY EDITOR

NO CODE REQUIRED.

Write
your own story.

UNPRINTED is being developed together with an in-game Story Editor. Create articles, headline rules and event chains without writing code, and try what you write right away at the same news desk.

The official campaign and campaigns written by the community use the same content system.

WHAT'S IN THE EDITOR

  1. 01

    Articles

Write a story sentence by sentence and set the order of its sentences.

  2. 02

    Headline rules

Decide which headline appears depending on which sentences remain.

  3. 03

    Events

Set up events, delays and branching paths that depend on what gets published and on the state of the world.

  4. 04

    Characters and endings

Planned. The goal is for complete campaigns to be written entirely inside the game.

Frequently asked questions

Is it a strategy game?

No. The war is at the heart of the story, but UNPRINTED is not a military strategy game. It is built around journalism, managing reporters, editing stories and the consequences of what you publish.

Can I rewrite the stories?

No. You cannot change a single word. You can only remove sentences and restore them before printing, and the headline updates itself to match.

When will it be released?

We have not announced a release date yet. We will share it here when it is confirmed.

Which platforms will it be on?

Platforms have not been announced yet. We will update this section when details are available.
